Adelphi University Career Outcomes Survey: Class of 2018

Studying philosophy opened new worlds for me and taught me to evaluate ideas, question assumptions—even my own fundamental beliefs—and express myself clearly, skills that served me well as I embarked on a career in law. The philosophy faculty at Adelphi endlessly invested in my education, my ability to reason and my development as a person.

Minor in Philosophy

Exceptional Hands-On Learning

A philosophy education is more than reading, writing and attending class. At Adelphi, you’ll have countless chances to extend your learning outside the classroom, from department-sponsored initiatives to life-changing professional opportunities, including:

Every philosophy major conducts their own faculty-supervised research project. Many choose to do a yearlong senior capstone project, exploring topics such as climate justice, hate speech and free speech, reconciling faith and reason and the justice of sex work.

In the department-hosted “Food for Thought” lunchtime series, faculty members engage students in discussions about how philosophers would address a range of current issues, from #MeToo to toxic masculinity and anxiety.

Examine the intersections of philosophy and film with your professors in informal group settings.

Gain hands-on experience by interning at leading organizations like New York Communities for Change.
