Prepare for a rewarding, in-demand career providing psychiatric and mental healthcare to patients across their lifespan.
The demand for skilled psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners is growing. Graduates who complete certification will be prepared to assess, plan and manage clients and families with psychiatric diagnoses, providing critically needed psychopharmacology, counseling and therapy interventions.
In the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program, we prepare our students to care for the mental health needs of people of all ages. They are trained to address the contemporary issues that members of society face such as depression, anxiety, addiction and trauma through integrated approaches that include both therapy and medication.
Psychiatric Mental Health-Nurse Practitioner students can further their education:
This certificate program is designed to educate nurses who have an MS degree and are NPs in another specialty to provide primary psychiatric and mental health care across the lifespan (child-adolescence through geriatric).
At Adelphi, we believe hands-on experience is key to setting our students up for future career success. This is why students in our nursing certification programs complete 500 hours of hands-on clinical experience in a variety of settings including community health clinics, health maintenance organizations, specialty clinics, correctional facilities and private medical practices.
Providing a wealth of opportunities, the Clinical Education and Simulation Lab (CESiL) is where we translate theory into practice. Our skills laboratory simulates the hospital setting with all appropriate and supportive supplies and equipment, which includes advanced patient care manikins and simulators and many other innovative educational devices. Some of the center’s features include:
