Adelphi University offers numerous opportunities to open your mind to the world beyond our borders. Students can choose to study abroad for a semester, enroll in short (7-to-15 day) courses, or even learn about another country from our Manhattan Center campus in New York City.
The Willumstad School offers international study abroad courses on a regular basis focusing on business, economics, culture and politics. Recent programs have gone to Finland, France and China.
Finnish Innovation in Politics and Business
Travel to Finland with Willumstad School of Business professor Rakesh Gupta on this 1-credit study abroad course to explore this nation’s business and politics via lectures at the University of Tampere and visits to local business firms, political offices and cultural centers. Students will experience the exquisite natural beauty of Finland’s great outdoors as well, including the world-famous Finnish sauna next to one of the country’s more than 10,000 lakes.
Brazil – Brazilian Cultural Studies, Global Economy, and Natural Resource Management in Florianópolis at USAC
Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the incredibly diverse and dynamic culture of Brazil while living on a beautiful sub-tropical island and studying at one of South America’s most prestigious universities. The program is ideal for students who want to learn about the world’s fifth-largest country, one of the fastest-growing economies, and its diverse mix of European, African, and indigenous cultures. Learn an old European language with a unique modern twist while soaking up the beautiful weather and sandy white beaches of the southeastern Brazilian coast.
China – Shanghai University
Established in 1922, and with nearly 40,000 students distributed over three campuses, Shanghai University is one of China’s key universities. In addition to Chinese students, it attracts 2,000 students from 80 countries. Displacing Hong Kong as East Asia’s financial hub, Shanghai is home to more billionaires than anywhere in China.
France – Paris School of Business
Allows Adelphi students to live and learn in Paris while earning credit toward their degree. Students can study a variety of business courses in English, along with French language courses.
Spain – Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona
This program is designed for students who wish to complete business courses primarily in English, in combination with Spanish language. Courses such as “Español para los Negocios”, “Managerial Skills for International Business”, and “the Political Economy of European Integration” complement course offerings at Adelphi University.
International Business in NYC
The Robert B. Willumstad School of Business offers a special intersession course on international business during the month of January. The intensive two-week program meets mostly at Adelphi’s Manhattan Center in New York City and introduces students to the concepts of international business by focusing on China. Besides classroom instruction, the course includes talks on conducting business in China from visiting experts, and encourages students to explore the link between culture and business through field trips and cultural events. The course’s cultural liaisons provide students with real-world perspectives on Chinese business and consumers, and includes an end-of-semester project where students pitch their proposals for new businesses that could succeed in China today.
The Netherlands – Hanze University (Groningen)
In Hanze University’s “Doing Business in Europe: Marketing” summer course, students will take a journey through the European world of business. The classes are combined with extensive social activities and business trips to multinationals.
